Roughly 1 in 3 adult Americans are obese. As much as we hate to admit it, ground zero for the nation's obesity battle is Mississippi — where 7 of 10 adults in the state are either overweight or obese. Even among children the rate is high — 44 percent of kids are either overweight or obese. "For the sixth year in a row we remain the most obese state in the most obese country in the world, I guess making Mississippi the most obese place in the world," says Sandra Shelson, executive director of the Partnership for a Healthy Mississippi.1 The growth rate has climbed drastically over the years. In 1990 the obesity rate is our State was 15.0%, currently it is 37.3%.2 Becoming increasingly overweight is more serious than merely having to buy bigger clothes; obesity increases the risk of most chronic diseases

Let's stop here and forget about your weight for a moment. Most diets and fitness programs focus specifically on losing weight. We are talking whole body health: physical, emotional, social, occupational, intellectual, and spiritual aspects. By beginning to make healthy tweaks to your diet, becoming active most days of the week, making better spare-time choices, etc. your health will improve. By concentrating on functional movement through the activities of daily life, rather than cardio and resistance programs, you will begin to feel better and more confident leading to increased self-esteem.

Where Do I Begin?

Send us an email requesting a Free Consultation. We prefer to have current lab work. We can recommend an inexpensive lab in Gulfport, if necessary. Our Scope of Practice may require a doctor's release before any physical fitness programming. After consultation, if you choose to participate in our program, we will begin with some basic functional movement screens and physical assessments. We will look at your current eating practices and make dietary recommendations within our Scope of Practice. We will start with basic warm-up/cool-down exercises and dynamic stretching. From there, fitness programming will be customized to your current level of activity. You may choose to participate in a group fitness program comprised of other BMI25+ members.
